Summary

“I was always the busy one,” says our guest Hana of her life before COVID lockdowns. In this final interview of Season 4, we talk about the power of being by oneself, how it feels to jump back into a familiar line of work, and the importance of intuition. We look at present-day Petra, the famous city of stone nestled in southern Jordan, and we close with a tarot reading that captures the essence of acceptance in the face of change. Also: remembering to look up.

Five and Nine Season 4 is about crisis. It’s our first season recorded on location, with the majority of our episodes produced in the beautiful Wadi Rum desert in Jordan, thanks to a special artist residency hosted by One of Many Studio (OoM).

Music performed by Hashim Bin Muaitiq, recorded live in Wadi Rum.

New Workshops from Season 4 Hosts

(Online Feb 6 and 20) AX Mina: A Workshop on Rigorous Nonfiction from the Heart

This workshop is led by AX Mina, an author and coach who’s worked with hundreds of clients through coaching programs, 1:1 coaching and workshops. In a time of increasing uncertainty and chaos, compassionate, thoughtful, engaging nonfiction writing is needed more than ever.

In this class, we will look at nonfiction writing that sits at the intersection of facts and feelings — grabbing our attention with the heart while steeped in rigor, research and realism. We’ll look at how authors weave in and out between deeply heartfelt stories and careful facts. Importantly, we’ll also look at how nonfiction writing can elucidate and guide readers toward visions of the future that shape a sense of possibility, wonder and even optimism, all while grounded in research.

While tailored for nonfiction writers, this workshop can work well for writers of any kind.

(Interested in a deeper dive on your creative practice? Also consider one-on-one coaching with AX Mina.)

In these upside down times, it’s time for a new perspective on the classic “9 to 5” (and yes, we’re Dolly Parton fans). In tarot and astrology, reversals and retrogrades matter, because they shed light on our situation in new ways. Five represents turning points and change, and Nine represents a coming to completion.
We’re all rethinking the meaning of labor and justice in our lives. Our lives and livelihoods are more essential than ever in identifying ways forward for society that can be grounded in care, compassion and sustainability.
